Journey to Incrementalia Beginners Guide

From Game Vault
flawless

Journey to Incrementalia is an incremental game with a pretty basic mechanics, but understanding of the game mechanics and tactics will allow players to progress more efficiently. This Beginners Guide will explain the game basis and give some progression and tactics tips that will help new players to get a good start.

Game Basics[edit source]

There are some basic mechanics in Journey to Incrementalia that are unique to the game and distinguish it from other incremental games.

Mana Orb[edit source]

Mana orb is located in the bottom right side of the screen and it generates mana when being clicked or if you hold left mouse button on it. As it generates mane it fills up and when completely filled it will trigger Mana Amplification, a special temporary effect that will boost Mana Multiplier and Damage Multiplier. If you will fill the orb again before Mana Amplification expires you will get another stack, but you will also have a chance to Crack the Orb instead.

Cracked orb disables pondering, removes all instances of Mana Amplification and decreases your Mana Multiplier for -0.2 for a short time. When the cooldown is over Mana Orb will be back to its normal state and can be pondered again.

Mana and Souls[edit source]

Mana and Souls are the main resources in the game.

Mana is being harvested from orbs by clicking or holding mouse on it, from Focus skill or from specific summons and items.

Souls are mostly being summoned using spells or rewarded upon completing Side Quest. Souls used to summon minions will be refunded upon minion sacrifice or death.

Wall[edit source]

Destroying the wall is the main goal in the game. You can use spells or summons to damage the wall.

Each next wall will have more HP and some of walls have specific bonuses:

  • HP regen.

Every 15 seconds Wall recovers some % of its health. In order to counter those walls you will either need higher dps than the wall regen or burst it down fast so it won't have time to recover.

  • Kill player's minions over time.

This effect kills player minions over time and the further you progress the faster kill ratio will be. It takes out summons in a specific order: Melee, then Ranged, than Support. Best counter is to summon some Skeletons or Skeleton Nobles as a meat shield.

Taking out 50% of the Wall hp rewards player with 1 Skill Point, destroying it rewards with 2 Skill points.

Summons[edit source]

Player can summon variety of entities that can damage the wall or act as support units. Each summon costs Souls and Mana. You can sacrifice minion and get back the invested Souls. There are various summons in the game, each of them with their unique properties:

  • Skeleton - basic melee unit. Attacks the wall.
  • Goblin - ranged unit that applies Poison to the wall.
  • Cultist - support unit that doesn't attack. Charges mana inside of them and release it on death (will be added to the mana pool when unit dies).
  • Captain - support unit that doesn't attack. Adds to the Damage Multiplier buff.
  • Mage - support unit that generates Mana.
  • Skeleton Noble - Summons Skeletons on cooldown. Summoned skeletons still require souls to be summoned.
  • Devil - ranged unit that deals damage to the wall. Every 30 second consumes 1 Cultist. If there is no Cultist to consume it dies.
  • Camel - support unit. Increases Magi Mana generation rate
  • Overseer - support unit. Increases Skeletons damage.
  • Wurm - support unit. Increases Mana multiplier.
  • Sorcerer - support unit. Copies Invocation spell that player casts with 50% damage.
  • Recruiter - support unit. Summons Cultists.
  • Spider - ranged unit that damages the wall. Has chance to cause Rupture - increased damage multiplier for a short duration.
  • Insect - melee unit that attacks the wall and dies.
  • Knight - melee unit that attacks the wall increases damage multiplier when it's attacking.
  • General - support unit. Buffs Captains Damage multiplier buff.
  • Mana Golem - support unit that generates mana.
  • Hydra - support unit that buffs poison potency.
  • Blood Golem
  • Jester - boosts Bards damage and Mana multiplier buff
  • Hugger - melee units that explode on contact with the wall with the chance to cause Rupture.
  • Gobuschet - ranged unit. Deals more damage for each active minion.
  • Archdevil - ranged minion. Summon huggers and consume cultists.
  • Angel - support unit. Do damage to the wall when other summon are attacked.

Tactics[edit source]

Most of the time the wall doesn't pose a significant threat to the player, so focusing on mana production will allow to have stronger army later on. Focusing on Focus in the early stages of the game will allow to have mana production without clicking the orb. Then that extra mana can be used for purchasing extra souls and then minions, which will lead to a faster wall destruction.

Over time the tactics player use should change. Skeletons that are pretty good at the start become weaker later on and 15 Goblins will do way more DPS than 20 Skeletons. Do not be afraid to experiment and sacrifice your units or reset the skills. Later on you might want to replace most of your units with mages and use Fireball to take out a couple of Walls. Then respec again and create army of Devils that feast on the Cultists to take out the walls faster.

Doing side quests rewards player with items and souls. Do not skip them. The difference between different options in the quest is a cooldown duration before the next action. So more expensive answers progress quests faster.

Captains provide powerful Damage Multiplier buff that works for summons, spells, poison and other damage sources. Use it to your advantage and make sure to mix some of the captains in your army.

If you are using spells to damage the wall, building up 3-4 stacks of Mana Amplification will significantly boost the damage. Burst down the wall when you succeed with the buff.
